WHO IS THE MOST EVOLVED ON OUR PLANET?                                                

Dear friend,

 You may think this, a silly question. All of us know the obvious answer: of course, it is we - the humans - who are the most evolved living beings on the Earth! We are the most intelligent, successful and fit of all. Climbing the tall evolutionary ladder, rung by rung, we have come to occupy the highest position!

             But wait! Let us take a look around. Have you observed a colourful fish swimming in an aquarium? The agile and fluid movements of its wing and tails, its adaptability inside the water to ma
neuver itself in all directions, it is a treat to watch the fish! Hold a flower and feel the marvellous soft petals, its bright colours, its pollen-ridden stamens, and the pleasant fragrance! Where did all this come from? From the bark of the plant or the leaves or roots? Every creation of nature appears to be an absolute wonder!

             I prefer to compare the evolutionary process to a large growing tree. Starting from a small seed, this tree has grown in all directions, adding new and diverse branches, for innumerable number of years. During rough times, some of its large branches broke and fell, some twigs snapped and lost. But come spring, it blooms with full majestic beauty and splendour! Now, which tender leaf do you consider the most recent or which flower the most evolved - of all?

             Friends, this is my theory: Since four billion years, life has existed on this Earth and nature has continuously experimented on them. Of the millions of species of plants and animals that were born on the Earth, only one percent of them remain! Rest of them was pushed to extinction for reasons best known to nature itself: Inadvertent errors, failure to coexist with others, burden to other co-occupants...   

            Nature Always Aims At Perfection! In concordance with the nature’s instincts and grand designs, every species that has remained on the planet, including us, slowly but steadily perfected itself into live masterpieces! This process of achieving absolute excellence naturally continues forever. Therefore, at any given point of time on the timeline of the Earth, every single lifeform on our planet is the most evolved!

             We, as humans, happen to be here and now! As witness to the success of all those who have accomplished the pinnacle of achievement and at the same time participating in that symphonic act of being perfect.

 Let us join hands to make our only Earth, a place where all elements of life can live in health, happiness and harmony. Thank you.

SPECIAL WILDLIFE MESSENGER OF THIS YEAR

Red-whiskered Bulbul (Pycnonotus jocosus)  This is the most common garden bird of India. It has a black crest that is turned forwards and has bright red patches on the cheeks and vent. Melodiously vocal, it feeds on fruits, nectar and small insects. Bulbuls are mostly monogamous. They build an open cup-shaped nest made of rootlets and leaves lined with soft fibre. They live for about 10-11 years.

Total of hand-painted cards made: this year 1930; in 36 years 72,655. Total recipients: this year 1010; in 36 years 13,004.        THE WILDLIFE MESSAGE CARDS are individually hand-painted and sent to individuals throughout the world to mark the Wildlife Week.

ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗಿಂತ ವಿಕಾಸ ಹೊಂದಿದ ಜೀವಿ ಯಾರು? 

ಮಿತ್ರರೆ,

ಇದೆಂಥ ಬಾಲಿಶ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಎಂದು ನಿಮಗೆ ಅನ್ನಿಸಬಹುದು. ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗಿಂತ ವಿಕಾಸ ಹೊಂದಿದ ಜೀವಿಗಳು ನಾವು-ಮಾನವರು- ಅಲ್ಲವೆ? ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗಿಂತ ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತ, ಯಶಸ್ವಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಮರ್ಥ ಜೀವಿಗಳು ನಾವು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ವಿಶ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಧಿಸಿ ತೋರಿಸಿಲ್ಲವೆ? ಜೀವವಿಕಾಸದ ಎತ್ತರವಾದ ಏಣಿಯನ್ನು ಒಂದೊಂದೇ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿಲು ಹತ್ತಿ ಉತ್ತುಂಗವನ್ನು ತಲುಪಿರುವವರು ನಾವಲ್ಲವೆ!

ಒಂದು ಕ್ಷಣ ತಡೆಯಿರಿ; ನಮ್ಮ ಸುತ್ತುಮುತ್ತಲು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ದೃಷ್ಟಿ ಹಾಯಿಸೋಣ. ಗಾಜಿನ ತೊಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈಜಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಬಣ್ಣಬಣ್ಣದ ಮೀನುಗಳನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಿ: ಲೀಲಾಜಾಲವಾಗಿ, ಚಾಕಚಕ್ಯತೆಯಿಂದ ರೆಕ್ಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ಬಾಲವನ್ನಾಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಓಡಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ಎರಡು ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು ಸಾಲವು! ಅದೆಂಥ ಜಾಣ್ಮೆ, ಅದೆಂಥ ಚಾತುರ್ಯ! ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ, ಒಂದು ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಹೂವನ್ನು ಕೈಯ್ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಂಡು ಅನುಭವಿಸಿ: ರೇಷ್ಮೆಯಂತಹ ಆ ಹೂವಿನ ಪಕಳೆಗಳು, ಉಜ್ವಲ ಬಣ್ಣ, ನಾಜೂಕಾದ ಆ ಕೇಸರಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮಧುರವಾದ ಪರಿಮಳ! ಆ ಮೃದುತ್ವ, ಆ ಕೋಮಲತೆ, ಇವೆಲ್ಲ ಆ ಹೂವಿಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲಿಂ
ದ ಬಂದವು? ಮರದ ಒರಟು ಕಾಂಡದಿಂದಲೆ, ಎಲೆಗಳಿಂದಲೆ ಅಥವಾ ಬೇರುಗಳಿಂದಲೆ? ನಿಸರ್ಗದ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಸೃಷ್ಠಿಯೂ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯದ ಅಪ್ಪಟವಾದ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಹಾಗೂ ಅದ್ಭುತ ರಚನೆ ಅನ್ನಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೆ? 

ವಿಕಾಸದ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯನ್ನು ನಾನು ಬೆಳೆಯಿತ್ತಿರುವ ಒಂದು ಬೃಹತ್ ವೃಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಲಿಸಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಬೀಜದಿಂದ ಮೊಳಕೆಯೊಡೆದು ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ದಿಕ್ಕುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಅದೆಷ್ಟೋ ಶತಮಾನಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಬೆಳೆದು, ಇಂದು ಹೆಮ್ಮರವಾಗಿ ನಮ್ಮೆದುರು ನಿಂತಿದೆ! ಕಾಲನ ಕ್ರೂರ ಜಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕು, ಅದರ ಎಷ್ಟೋ ಕೊಂಬೆಗಳು ತುಂಡರಿಸಿ ಬಿದ್ದುಹೋಗಿರಬಹುದು, ಇನ್ನೆಷ್ಟೋ ಟೊಂಗೆಗಳು ಕಳಚಿಕೊಂಡಿರಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ, ವಸಂತ ಕಾಲ ಬಂದಾಗ, ಇಡೀ ಮರ ತಳಿರೊಡೆದು ಪುಷ್ಪಗಳನ್ನು ತಳೆದಾಗ... ವಾಹ್! ಸೌಂದರ್ಯವೇ ಮೈದಳೆದು ನಳನಳಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವ ಆ ಮರದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಹೊಸದಾದ ಚಿಗುರು ಯಾವುದು, ಅಥವಾ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ವಿಕಾಸ ಹೊಂದಿದ ಹೂವು ಯಾವುದು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೆ? 

ಮಿತ್ರರೆ, ಇದು ನನ್ನ ವಿಚಾರ ಸರಣಿ: ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಮೊದಲ ಜೀವ ಜನ್ಮತಳೆದು ನಾನ್ನೂರು ಕೋಟಿ ವರ್ಷಗಳಾದುವು. ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಇಲ್ಲಿಯವರೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯು, ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿದೆ. ಇಳೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಅದೆಷ್ಟೋ ಕೋಟಿ ಜೀವ ಪ್ರಭೇದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇಂದು ಉಳಿದಿರುವುದು ಕೇವಲ ಶೇಕಡ ಒಂದರಷ್ಟು ಮಾತ್ರ! ಉಳಿದವು ಹೇಳಹೆಸರಿಲ್ಲದಂತೆ ನಶಿಸಿಹೋಗಿವೆ. ಅವು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯ ಪ್ರಯೋಗ ದೋಷಗಳೋ, ಅವು ಭೂಮಿಗೆ ಹೊರೆಯಾದವೋ ಅಥವಾ ನಿಷ್ಪ್ರಯೋಜಕ ಜೀವಿಗಳೆನಿಸಿಕೊಂಡವೋ.... ಕಾರಣ ನಿಸರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಗೊತ್ತು!

ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣತೆಯ ಪರಾಕಾಷ್ಠೆಯೇ ನಿಸರ್ಗದ ಗುರಿ! ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಈ ಹುಟ್ಟರಿವಿನ ಗುಣ, ಅದರ ಉತ್ಕೃಷ್ಟ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸದ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪ, ಇವುಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸಿ, ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿದು ಬಾಳಿದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಜೀವಿಗಳೂ ದೃಢವಾಗಿ, ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ವಿಕಸಿತಗೊಂಡು, ಒಂದೊಂದೂ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯದ ಕಲಾಕೃತಿಗಳಾಗಿ ರೂಪುಗೊಂಡಿವೆ! ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಗತಿ ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಮುಂದುವರಿಯುವುದೂ ನಿಸರ್ಗದ ಸಹಜ ಲಕ್ಷಣವೇ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಈ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಯಾವುದೇ ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ, ಇಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಜೀವಿಯೂ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ವಿಕಾಸ ಹೊಂದಿದ ಜೀವಿಯೇ ಆಗಿದೆ!

ನಾವು, ಮನುಷ್ಯರು, ಇಂದೀಗ, ಇಲ್ಲಿದ್ದೇವೆ. ಉತ್ಕೃಷ್ಟತೆಯನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸಿರುವ ಇತರ ಜೀವಿಗಳ ಯಶಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳಾಗಿ, ಮತ್ತು ಆ ಸಾಧನೆಯ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಸಾಮರಸ್ಯದ ವೈದೃಶ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವೂ ಭಾಗಿಗಳಾಗಿ! 

ಬನ್ನಿ, ನಾವೆಲ್ಲ ಕೈಗೂಡಿಸೋಣ. ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಜೀವದ ಪ್ರತಿ ಅಣುಅಣುವೂ ಸುಖದಿಂದ, ಶಾಂತಿಯಿಂದ, ಸಹಬಾಳ್ವೆ ನಡೆಸುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡೋಣ. 

ವಂದನೆಗಳು. 

 ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ವಿಶೇಷ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಸಂದೇಶವಾಹಕ: ಕೆಮ್ಮೀಸೆ ಪಿಕಳಾರ : ಹೂದೋಟಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಲವಲವಿಕೆಯಿಂದ ಹಾಡುತ್ತಾ, ಹಾರಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಸಂತೋಷದ ವಾತಾವರಣವನ್ನೇ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುವ ಈ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗೆ ತಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ  ಮುಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾಗಿರುವ ಕಪ್ಪು ಕಿರೀಟ; ಕೆನ್ನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕಿಬ್ಬೊಟ್ಟೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಚ್ಚ ಕೆಂಪು ಮಚ್ಚೆಗಳು. ಹೂ ಮಕರಂದ, ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಣ್ಣ ಕೀಟಗಳೇ ಆಹಾರ. ಪಿಕಳಾರಗಳ ಆಯಸ್ಸು ಸುಮಾರು ೧೦-೧೧ ವರ್ಷ; ಸಾಧಾರಣವಾಗಿ ಏಕಪತಿತ್ತ್ವ ಅನುಸರಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ಗಿಡಗಂಟಿಗಳ ಕವಲುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, ನಾರು-ಬೇರುಗಳಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ, ಒಳಗೆ ಮೃದುವಾದ ಬಟ್ಟಲಾಕಾರದ ಗೂಡು ಕಟ್ಟುತ್ತವೆ.
